How does data sharing work?
ChurchTrac's data sharing feature uses your internet connection to keep the data
on all your computers synchronized. Suppose you have a volunteer who enters attendance data
from home every Monday night. After she enters this week's attendance records,
ChurchTrac synchronizes her new entries with the online server. Then, on
Tuesday morning when you arrive at the church office and open ChurchTrac, the
program quickly downloads all the new data,
giving you access to the attendance records that your volunteer entered the
night before!
Do our other computers have to be turned on for the data sharing feature to
work?
Not at all. The data sharing feature synchronizes with an online server that is always on.
You can update and synchronize your data at any time, even if the other
computers that you share data with are turned off.
Do I have to be connected to the internet to use ChurchTrac?
No. You can use ChurchTrac anytime, with or without an internet
connection. While this feature uses your internet connection, you don't have
to be connected to the internet to use ChurchTrac. When you do connect to the internet, ChurchTrac can synchronize
your changes with the data sharing server.
Is it secure?
Very. In fact, there's several layers of security to protect your data.
When you subscribe to the data sharing service, an account is set up for your
church with a password protected folder on the ChurchTrac server. Only those who
you share your user name and password with will have access to your data. Your
data is also encrypted before being uploaded to the server, so it is not
possible for someone to access it. The data sharing feature also includes free
online backups of your data, and you have the option of encrypting your
backup files as well. Finally, you can configure ChurchTrac's built-in security
protocols to control who has access to your database--and these security changes
are also synchronized to every computer in your data sharing network.
Is it difficult to set up?
It's almost as simple as entering your data sharing user
name and password on each computer--and ChurchTrac does the rest! We also

data sharing screen in ChurchTrac will display a list of every computer in
your data sharing network and tell you how long it has been since each
computer synced with the online server.
Do I have to purchase one subscription for each computer?
No. You only need to purchase one subscription for your entire church (not
one per computer).
