ChurchTrac Uninstall and Reinstall Instructions

Most users will never need to reinstall ChurchTrac, but sometimes it is necessary. For example, you may also need to reinstall ChurchTrac if you've encountered a problem or want to start from scratch, or if you're having compatibility issues. The following instructions will guide you through the uninstall and reinstall process.

STEP A: Perform a Clean Uninstall

1. Open ChurchTrac and make sure that your data is displayed on the various screens within the program. If so, use the utilities menu on the main toolbar in ChurchTrac to backup your data files. Save the backup .zip file to your desktop AND to an external device, such as a CD, floppy, or flash drive.

2. Open the Windows Control Panel and choose "Add/Remove Programs". Uninstall whatever versions of ChurchTrac are listed. When ChurchTrac is uninstalled, also uninstall both Microsoft Access 2002 Runtime or ChurchTrac Database Engine if listed.

3. Open "My Computer" and browse to the C:\ChurchTrac\ folder, and delete ALL the files inside this folder.

4. Using "My Computer", browse to the C:\Program Files\ChurchTrac\ folder, and delete ALL the files that appear inside this folder.

5. Delete any ChurchTrac/WorshipTrac shortcuts on your desktop and inside your Windows start menu.

STEP B: Reinstall ChurchTrac

1. Download and install the full ChurchTrac program from the download page NOTE: Even if you have an old CD or download of ChurchTrac, you should always download a new copy of the installer, since earlier downloads and CDs may have issues with Windows Vista, Microsoft Office, or other programs. Save the new installation file to your computer's desktop or another location that is easy to find. When the download completes, double-click the downloaded file to launch the ChurchTrac installation program.

2. Open the people screen in ChurchTrac and verify that the names from your church are there, including any recent modifications that you made. If not, you'll need to restore the data file(s) that you created in step A1 above. To do this, open ChurchTrac and choose the Backup/Restore option from the Utilities menu, then click on the Restore tab. Use the browse button to locate the data file backup you created above (the backup files are saved in .zip format). Follow the prompts to replace the existing data with the data that you backed up earlier, then restart ChurchTrac.

Troubleshooting Reinstallation Procedures

In some extremely rare circumstances, the following step may need to be performed if you are unable to uninstall ChurchTrac, Microsoft Access 2002 Runtime, or the ChurchTrac Database Engine. The following steps should only be performed when instructed to do so by technical support.

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from here. This is a small program from Microsoft that removes programs that won't uninstall using traditional methods.

2. When the cleanup utility is installed, you'll find a shortcut for it in your Windows Start menu. Run the cleanup utility and find ChurchTrac, Microsoft Access 2002 Runtime, and ChurchTrac Database Engine in the list of programs. Use this utility to remove each of these applications, one at a time, if present. DO NOT under any circumstances remove any other programs using this utility as this may render your computer unresponsive.

3. Once the programs listed in step 2 have been removed, restart your computer, then re-install ChurchTrac following the instructions in Step B in the section above.
