Error 900: The Synchronization ID from this computer does not match the Synchronization ID of your data sharing network.

For the data sharing process to work, all of the computers in your data sharing network must have the same Synchronization ID. The data sharing setup instructions contain detailed steps for ensuring that each computer in your data sharing network has the same Synchronization ID. This ensures that only data files that are compatible with each other are used in your data sharing network.

If you are encountering Error 900, then one of the following may describe your situation:

  • If you do not carefully follow the data sharing setup instructions you could end up with computers that have different Synchronization IDs. Following the data sharing setup instructions ensures that each computer will have the same Synchronization ID. For example, if you simply enter your user name a password on the data sharing screen without performing the 10-step setup instructions, Error 900 will likely be the result.

  • If you do not perform the backup/restore process of the data sharing setup instructions correctly, or if you use the wrong backup file during the restore process, Error 900 will be the result.

  • If you restore an older data file on your computer, it may change your Synchronization ID.

  • If you or someone else in your data sharing network has reset your data sharing server, then you may see Error 900 when you attempt to synchronize with the server. When the server is reset, and new Synchronization ID is assigned to the computer where the reset was performed, and that new Synchronization ID will also be assigned to your data sharing server.

To resolve Error 900, first be sure that you have followed the data sharing setup instructions precisely. (The data sharing setup instructions can be found on the data sharing screen in ChurchTrac--click Utilities on the main toolbar, then click "Share data with other computers").

When you are following the data sharing setup instructions and setting up Computer B, Computer C, etc., be sure that you are using the correct backup file that was created when setting up Computer A.

If your computer was previously synchronizing with the server, but now has a different Synchronization ID, follow these steps:

  1. Go to another computer in your data sharing network (we'll call it "Computer Z"). Make sure Computer Z is working and that it is able to successfully synchronize with the server. Perform a synchronization on Computer Z.

  2. After the synchronization is complete, create a backup of the data file using the Backup feature on Computer Z. Save the backup/zip file from Computer Z to a disc or USB drive.

  3. Take the new backup file to the computer where Error 900 is occurring. Use the Restore feature on this computer to restore the data file from Computer Z. When the restore has completed, ChurchTrac will prompt you to restart the program.

  4. When you restart ChurchTrac, go the data sharing screen and verify that the Synchronization ID on this computer now matches the Synchronization ID from Computer Z. You should be able to click the "Synchronize Now" button and perform a successful synchronization.
