Performing a Repair Operation on Microsoft Access Runtime

Access Runtime is the database engine that ChurchTrac utilizes. Occasionally you may need to perform a simple repair operation on Microsoft Access runtime. This is especially true when you notice that some of the calculated values on screens and reports don't display the correct total (or display 0 instead of the correct total), or when you're encountering errors like error 3085.

To repair Access runtime, follow these steps:

  • Close ChurchTrac first, then open your list of installed programs:

    • On Windows XP, click Start, Control Panel, and "Add/Remove Programs"
    • On Vista and Windows 7, click on Start, Computer, then click "Uninstall or Change a Program" on the toolbar.

Find Microsoft Access 2002 Runtime in the list of installed programs. (If you do not have Microsoft Access 2002 Runtime, check to see if you have "ChurchTrac Database Engine" instead, as these are the same). Click on it in the list, then click "Repair" (Vista and Windows 7) or "Change" (Windows XP). Proceed through the steps on-screen and perform a Repair operation on Access runtime (or ChurchTrac database engine--again, whichever you have listed).

After a few moments, the repair operation will complete, and you can restart ChurchTrac.

If the repair operation fails, or if you get an error during the repair operation, you may need to uninstall and reinstall Access Runtime. First, uninstall both ChurchTrac and Access Runtime, then download and install an updated full copy of ChurchTrac from here. When you reinstall ChurchTrac, Access Runtime will also be reinstalled. If you are unable to uninstall Access runtime, please contact technical support.

Note: It is also important to make sure you have the latest updates for Access Runtime installed, as some errors are caused by not having the most up-to-date version of Access installed. If you're using Vista or Windows 7, click on the Windows Start menu and open Windows Update. Click on "Change Settings" and make sure the option is checked that says: "Give me updates for Microsoft products...". Click OK, then click "Check for Updates" and install any available updates. Specifically, any updates for Windows or Microsoft Access need to be installed to ensure ChurchTrac works correctly.
