Trend Micro security products may identify the ChurchTrac installer as possible malware. This is what is commonly known as a "false positive". The ChurchTrac installer does not contain malware of any kind, and we aggressively scan all the files we post to the ChurchTrac website to ensure their safety. But don't take our word for it...
For your peace of mind, we recommend that you submit the ChurchTrac installer (or submit the download link) to virustotal.com for analysis. VirusTotal provides a free service and will report antivirus scan results from all major antivirus applications, including Norton, McAfee, AVG, Microsoft, and many more. Your VirusTotal scan results will show that all major antivirus companies consider the ChurchTrac installer to be safe.
We have asked Trend Micro to update their virus definitions to recognize that the ChurchTrac installer is not a threat. As of the date of this writing, we have not received a response to our request.
Additionally, some ChurchTrac customers have reported other complications when using Trend Micro products. Due to their network scanning algorithms, ChurchTrac performance (and overall computer performance) may be impacted greatly when using a Trend Micro product.
With the world with live in today, we strongly recommend that you use an antivirus application. However, we can't recommend Trend Micro. Most antivirus products consistently outperform Trend Micro without impacting PC performance or throwing false positives. If you are currently using Trend Micro, or if you are currently looking for a security or anti-virus application, we recommend Microsoft's excellent and free Security Essentials.
